Made up of numerous east-west ridges and divided between La Marina Baja and Alta (low and high) the range occupies a huge headland that juts out into the Mediterranean between Alicante and Valencia. These mountains are not giants - the highest is Aitana at 1558m, but the area has a variety of interesting terrain, dry rocky 'montebajo' is common, but away from the ridges and high mountain passes much of the walking is along quiet forestry tracks. High ridge walks, gorge walks and treks from mountain peak to seashore are all possible, and despite the tourist hordes a stones throw away it is possible to put on your rucksack and not see another soul for days on end.

This coast has a mild, Mediterranean climate, an average max temperature in winter of 13'C and in the summer of 39'C. The annual precipitation is low, from 400 to 500mm per year, of which most falls between September and November.
In the more remote mountain areas your can find several rare species of animal- such as the lynx and Spanish boar and the fauna in the spring can be a delight. You find lavender, thyme, sage, rue and curry plant. Also in early summer you need to look for black vanilla, mirror and frog orchids and Bertoloni's bee.
Walking groups have been visiting La Marina for a good many years now and they have all discovered that to walk as independents can lead to a few problems. Firstly, the maps produced for this area are not really adequate and the public transport leaves a lot to be desired. This has led to the large increase in guide companies operating from this Coast. Orange House staff have been guiding here for many years and have a large pool of local experience to draw upon. All UK based staff hold the MLTB Mountain Leader award, non UK staff hold the equivalent from their home nations NGB. This ensures you are in safe and capable hands. From beginners rambles to 'full on' Mountain ridge walks we can guide them all.
Independent walking groups are very welcome to use the Orange House as their holiday base. Staff will be happy to supply advise and ideas for walks, along with the occasional map.
